Filliatreau Saumur-Champigny "Vieilles Vignes" '02
One of the most well regarded "old school" producers of Saumur-Champigny, an appellation in the central Loire Valley dedicated to producing Cabernet Franc. There are over 100 vignerons in the appellation, and Filliatreau, a fourth-generation domaine, owns around 50 hectares of vineyards. Frederik took over from his father, Paul, who was the first in his family to focus on quality wines. Filliatreau produces a wide range of wines, from white to red, and among these is one of their top Cabernet Franc bottlings, called "Vieilles Vignes." This wine is produced from the estates oldest vines, between 50 and 100 years of age. It is a wine capable of long aging. We just received some cellar releases of "Vieilles Vignes," perfectly matured at the winery and ready to drink! If you haven't tried an older bottling from Saumur-Champigny, this is a great opportunity!
