Fattoria Nicolucci Vino Bianco Forlì IGP ' 20

Last month we debuted the wines of Alessandro Nicolucci with a fantastic Sangiovese in our Six for $20 and Under wine club, and today we are following that up with this fantastic bianco. In case you missed his introduction, Alessandro is the fourth-generation winemaker at the family-run farm, located specifically in Predappio Alta. The family has been estate bottling since 1885, although the history of wine in this area dates back to around 1000 B.C. The history is on full display in the old historic cellar, at the base of the local castle.

When it comes to the wine of Romagna, it is really important to understand that the territory is so varied, so terroir-driven, that the region cannot be painted in broad brushstrokes. Predappio has its own microclimates, its own traditions, and its own history, all of which are reflected in the wine produced at Fattoria Nicolucci.

Made entirely from Trebbiano della Fiamma grown in chalky clay and sand, these vines are over 40 years old. After harvesting by hand, the grapes are dried for two months, followed by one week of skin contact before pressing. The nose is very subtle, with notes of marzipan, yellow plum, and mineral. Medium weight, it glides across the palate, finishing with soft tannins and a long finish.

This is a fantastic skin contact white, and we are one of the few stores in the world outside Italy that sells this. We recommend not serving this too cold, and pair it with spaghetti alle vongole.
