Famille Paquet "Les Crays" Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay '19
This is another exceptional cuvée from Famille Paquet. Since taking over their family’s 12-hectare property in the Mâconnais region of Burgundy, in 2016, the three brothers behind Famille Paquet—Camille, Mathieu, and Jean-Baptiste—have been developing their vineyards into their ideal domaine. They now have almost 30 hectares in multiple appellations in the Mâconnais, in and around Pouilly-Fuissé and the original village of Saint-Véran. Using organic principles and a minimal-intervention approach to winemaking, the Paquets are focused on quality and accessibility, two descriptors seldom used together when talking about wine from Burgundy.
“Les Crays” is made from 100% Chardonnay, and fermentation is carried out spontaneously. The wine was aged for 12 months on its fine lees in oak barrels (20% in new oak), and then for 6 months in vats.
I'd put this up against any Meursault or Chassagne that I've tasted in the past year, and those are twice as expensive! Don't miss it.
