Loire Valley
Emmanuelle Mellot takes winemaking inspiration from her father, the celebrated French winemaker Alphonse Mellot, yet she is very much guided by her own ideas. The family’s winemaking history dates back more than five hundred years (to 1513) in the central Loire Valley, and their home is in Sancerre. For her négociant project, called Vins d’Emmanuelle, she collaborates with growers and other wineries to source grapes grown throughout the Loire Valley, helping spotlight high-quality appellations near Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. The plots and barrels for her wines reflect the style she seeks for her wines—fruit-forward, traditional, and balanced.
The grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards cultivated with organic practices and biodynamic farming to protect the health of the vineyards. The grapes are destemmed, then fermented and aged in stainless steel for six months. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Vibrant notes of citrus peel, grapefruit and mineral on the nose and palate. Perfectly poised and easy to drink, this is one of the best Sauvignon Blanc values we have tasted this year.
