Etna
Emiliano Falsini "Feudo Pignatone" Etna Rosso '20
"Feudo Pignatone Rosso is created from a selection of Nerello Mascalese grapes grown organically on the contrada (an ancient estate usually aligning with an historic lava flow) of the same name in the municipality of Randazzo on the northern slope of Mount Etna at an altitude of approximately 700 metres. The grapes used in Feudo Pignatone Rosso come from vines between 30 and 100 years old. A meticulous selection is carried out in the vineyard and subsequently through the separate vinification of every single parcel so as to produce a wine of rare elegance and finesse, with a mineral imprint that unmistakeably expresses the terroir.
The 2020 vintage began with a relatively arid, cold winter and spring that delayed the growing cycle by approximately one week. There were no significant rainfall events until June, and only in July did we see abundant rains that led to perfect development of the bunches. Fine weather continued in August, whereas September saw abundant rains that in many cases required significant decision-making in the vineyard in order to guarantee the quality of the wines. October, meanwhile, saw a period of warm, sunny days that continued until harvest on 27-28 October 2020."
Explosive nose, with notes of dark cherry and forest floor. Pretty red fruits up front, building with spice, soft tannins and a bright juicy finish. A beautiful Etna Rosso that drinks well now, and will age through 2030.
