Piedmont
While it may still seem unusual to see Chardonnay in the Langhe, there are notable plantings in the area. In 1986, Elio Grasso decided to plant a small section of his vineyard to Chardonnay with the goal of showcasing the terroir of Monforte d'Alba through them. In 1990, the winery released its first vintage of Chardonnay and has continued to produce it as the vines grow older and continue to develop.
“Educato” is fermented and aged in a combination of stainless steel as well as French oak, which gives the wine a toasted nut note and a balanced creaminess. On the nose the wine is irresistible and complex with floral notes and white peach. The acidity is bright and animated in a way that evokes the limestone terroir it comes from. “Educato” means “polite” or “genteel,” a perfect name for this poised and elegant wine.
