Lilian Duplessis is now the fifth generation in charge of this historic, 8 hectare estate in Chablis. The domaine is known as the antiquarians of Chablis with a reputation for immortal and age worthy wines with intense finely knit minerality, taut acidity all framed by its traditional aging in old oak for 18 months. Native yeasts are employed here and is certified Organic, a feat and a rarity in this difficult, cold climate.
The Montmains vineyard—the “medium sized mountain” in Chablis—is one of the most powerful and age worthy wines of the domaine—can be cellared up to fifteen years easily—and is in fact a favorite of Lillian who considers it classically Duplessis in style. The family owns a couple hectares in this premier cru, and it also has the honor of having some of the oldest vines of any holdings—up to 80 years old! From two parcels, one in the lieu dit of Forêt, on clay over limestone with South West exposure.
Extremely reserved yet persistent aromatics of citrus oil, asian pear and white flowers. A bright palate of Meyer lemon, salty sea spray and a rustic minerality that is pithy and powerful. The finish is long and deep, a sign of a wine that can stand the test of time. These are contemplative wines worthy of mindful drinking and attention.
