Dupasquier Altesse Roussette de Savoie '18
This stellar example of the Altesse variety is produced by the Dupasquier domaine, in southwestern Savoie, run by the fifth-generation winemaker David Dupasquier and his sister Veronique.
Made solely from Altesse, a variety that is locally called Roussette, grown on the the steep Marestel cru (Marestel is one of the four Roussette de Savoie AOCs), on the western side of Mont du Chat. The sun exposure here helps the vines ripen in the cool mountain climate and yield concentrated fruit. The grapes are hand harvested, then fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete vat. The wine is aged for a year on the fine lees in large barrel, then rests for 18 months in glass. This is a fuller-bodied, textured wine, with aromas of almonds, lemon peel, and honey.
