Domaine Sigaut Chambolle-Musigny '19
Anne and Hervé Sigaut are one of the hidden gems of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation in Burgundy. They own seven hectares spread throughout the village. Like their understated personalities, the Sigauts prefer to make wines on the fine and delicate side, wines that caress rather than clobber. They are helped by a bevy of old vines, many 50-60+ years old, that have long ago tapped the limestone bedrock that is the signature of this famed village. The vines are meticulously worked and tended during the growing season, as naturally and respectfully as possible.
The Pinot Noir vines for this cuvée come from four different climats. Les Babillères, in the south and at the base of the village (on the Vougeot side), is the main source. The other climats are Les Chardannes, Aux Croix, and Aux Combottes. Aromatic wine, easy to approach. Delicate notes of berries immediately emerge once the wine is poured into a glass. A light touch of dry fruits brings further complexity. The wine is aged in barrels (15% new) to preserve its pleasant character. It is a superb introduction to the world of Chambolle-Musigny wines. To pair with white meat.
