Domaine Les 4 Vents Crozes-Hermitage "Les Pitchounettes" '20
Comprising 10 hectares of vineyards, Domaine les 4 Vents is the project of sisters Lucie Fourel and Nancy Cellier. In 2006, Lucie took over 3.5 hectares in Crozes-Hermitage from her parents to make wines under her own label. In 2013, Nancy joined the family business and the domaine’s name was changed to Domaine les 4 Vents, the name of the auberge that Lucie and Nancy’s great grandparents owned next door to where the family house and winery is today. In 2015, Lucie and Nancy inherited additional land from their parents, bringing the domain to its current size. Before returning to the family estate, Lucie spent a few years as an apprentice with different wineries in the Rhône Valley, developing her philosophy and practices for organic and biodynamic farming as well as natural vinification.
Domaine Les 4 Vents has both organic and bio-dynamic certifications. Lucie does not use any sulfur during the winemaking process and only just before bottling does she add a minimal dose. The wines are fermented using only indigenous yeasts.
Composed of 100% Syrah, “Les Pitchounettes” is made from the domaine’s young vines (in the local language, pitchounettes means “young girls”). The grapes were hand harvested, and maceration lasted for about a month. The wine was aged for six months in tank and eight months in old 600-liter demi-muids, then bottled without fining or filtering.
Classic Crozes aromas, with notes of red and blue fruit, licorice, and white pepper. On the palate this is fresh and vibrant, with cherry and boysenberry flavors, soft tannins, and a long finish. Pair this alongside a grilled hamburger or roasted duck breast.
