    Kientzler Riesling '18

    Kientzler Riesling '18

One of the greatest unsung heroes of the Riesling world is without argument the country of Alsace.  Just like its variegated and complex history going back and forth between French and German cultural claim, the wines of Alsace are a perfect commingling of these two world leaders in the wine world showcasing various German white varietals with all of the elegance of the French touch.  The Riesling grape reins king in this part of the world and is stylistically different from what you will find from its neighbor in Germany; when wine drinkers turn up their noses up to this varietal thinking it’s too sweet and light, they have not tried the inimitable Rieslings coming from the blend of ancient volcanic and sedimentary soils, receiving tons of sunlight and sparse rain due to the rain-shadow effect given off from the Vosges mountains.  What is standout about Alsatian Rieslings unlike many of its German counterparts is that all of the natural sugars are fermented to dry which develops a bigger bodied style while still concentrating on the laser sharp tartness this grape is known for.  So if anyone tells you that all Riesling is sweet, bring them a bottle of this to show how incorrect that assumption is.

Domaine André Kintzler is a fifth generation wine making family whose vineyards span throughout various villages in Alsace, and the bottle we’re offering is the entry level Riesling which hails from the highly acclaimed village of Ribeauvillé housing many of the greatest Grand Cru vineyards in the country.  Not for the faint of heart, this wine is chock full of both tropical and stone fruit, lacquered in mineral, and finishing with the elongated chiseled acidity cleansing the palate and begging you to come back for more!  This is a wine built for pairing as Alsace is also known for some of the best culinary talent in the world, and they build their wines to follow suit.  Think of complementing this with lobster thermador or garlic crab, and don’t forget the butter!
