Based in the village of Chavot, in the Coteaux Sud d'Epernay, Aurélien Laherte has transformed this domaine into one of the very best of the region. The vineyards total 10.5 hectares, split into more than 75 different parcels. Technically this is a négociant, but really it is a family affair, with Aurélien using his own vineyard, along with those of uncles, aunts, and cousins. Several of the vineyards are farmed biodynamically, some certified organic, and all farmed sustainably.
“Les Vignes d’Autrefois” is made from old-vine, massale selection parcels of Meunier, planted in 1947 and 1953, in the villages of Chavot and Mancy. Fermentation takes place in used Burgundy barrels, and there is no malo. The wine is aged for six months with regular lees stirring. Disgorged in February 2020. A gorgeous wine with chalky richness.
