Casa de Saima Baga Bruto Espumante '16

Casa de Saima Baga Bruto Espumante '16

It is time to toast in the New Year!

What better way to do so than with one of our most popular and best value sparkling wines from Casa de Saima. This producer has been a staple of Perman Wine for many years now.

The late and great Graça Maria de Silva Miranda was the figure head of this small 18 hectare estate. She was a champion for the Bairrada region, and sought to produce quality wines from indigenous varietals.

You can’t talk about Bairrada without mentioning the most special grape of the region, Baga. This red grape variety, can be challenging to work with, but those that care for it, understand its nobility. A red wine made from Baga can be one of the great aging wines of Portugal.

In its sparkling form, Baga offers plenty of complexity and sheer deliciousness. The new vintage of 2016 Baga Bruto is a standout. Produced from 15 year-old vineyards planted in clay and limestone soils. The initial fermentation is made with natural yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The secondary fermentation made in bottle, resting on its lees for 18 months before disgorgement.

A beautiful copper color, with pretty notes of strawberry, crème fraîche, flowers and spice. Dry, elegant, with a continuation of red fruit and spice notes. It is truly a crowd pleasing style, and can be enjoyed on its own, or perhaps with Leitão da Bairrada, the classic suckling pig of the region.
