Burn Cottage Riesling Grüner '20
One of the very best producers in Central Otago, Burn Cottage is located in the Lowborn district of Central Otago. The winery was founded by Marquis Sauvage, after he visited the region and found a site that he thought would be incredible for Pinot Noir. He enlisted the help of Ted Lemon from Littorai in California to help him start planting, and farming using biodynamic principles. While Pinot Noir is the star at Burn Cottage, they had the idea that both Grüner Veltliner and Riesling would do well in parts of their vineyards. This is a wine that I've been hearing about for many, many years, and finally a small amount has been allocated to Chicago. We poured a bottle at a recent tasting, and it was fantastic. With some of that classic Grüner texture and spice, and plenty of the cut and fruit that Riesling provides. Only a small amount is available, but this is a great wine to open and drink now.
