    Beurer Trollinger '22

Many people can relate to the desire to change career paths. For Jochen Beurer, a former BMX champion turned winemaker, the wine world is certainly a better place after that decision!

Beurer is based in Württemberg in Germany, which alongside of Baden is often referred to as Swabia. Red wine is important in Swabia, particularly Baden where Pinot Noir is produced with great success. In Württemberg, the most important red grape is Trollinger, which is the same grape variety as Schiava in Italy. It typically offers, bright and fruity aromas, alongside a slightly grippy and juicy texture.

While Jochen Beurer is focused on Riesling, with 60% of his production devoted to that varietal, his work with Trollinger has always been exceptional. The 2022 Trollinger is the best example we’ve tasted from Beurer. Grown in a 1.2 ha parcel, with vines up to 50 years in age. Beurer uses only natural yeast for his fermentation, and this wine is neither fined nor filtered.

Beautiful aromas of tart cherry, wild strawberry, and a hint at herbs. Juicy, vibrant acidity, and a texture that us wine nerds sometimes refer to as “crunchy.” This wine deserves a slight chill, and pairs with so many “summery” foods such as tomato salads, grilled fish, and even meats such as grilled chicken and pork. The ultimate summer red.
