Avinyó Petillant '22
Over the years, Avinyò pétillant has continued its reign as our top-selling wine! While it might seem like it no longer needs an introduction, we still sing the praises of this much-loved, spritzy white wine that is perfect for summertime patio drinking (only 10.5% ABV!). Avinyó is one of the top Cava producers of the Penedès region, in Catalunya, just outside Barcelona. A little over a decade ago, Avinyó introduced a new kind of wine, a vi d’agulla, a Catalan term meaning "prickly wine." The Avinyó pétillant is made fruit from two organically farmed estate vineyards: Finca La Guardia, the highest, most rugged vineyard on the property at 350 meters, where muscat de Frontignan was planted in 2003 ; and Finca Can Fontanals, where Macabeo and Xarel-lo grow, planted from 1978 to 1988. The 2022 vintage is composed of 70% Muscat de Frontignan, 20% Macabeo, and 10% Xarel-lo. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeast in stainless steel tanks, and then undergoes secondary fermentation in tank via the Charmat method. Dry, vibrant and refreshing, with hints of flowers, citrus and orchard fruit. It goes down way too easily, especially when served from a porrón (which we sell of course!). This is the ultimate summertime porch pounder, definitely one to buy by the case!
