    Avennia "Oliane" Sauvignon Blanc '18

Avennia is a partnership between Marty & Colleen Taucher, Lauren Smith and Chris Peterson. For those that follow Washington State wines, these might be familiar names. Marty and Chris worked together at DeLille Cellars and began to dream about what their own winery in Washington could be like. They took a leap of faith, and in 2010 the produced their first wines from 16 tons of fruit. Since their release in 2012, Avennia has slowly become known as one of the best producers in the state.  While known for their work with Rhone and Bordeaux varieties, the sleeper hit of Avennia is their only white wine produced, ”Oliane" Sauvignon Blanc. Sourced from the Boushey Vineyard and Red Willow vineyard in Yakima Valley, The wine is barrel-fermented in French oak using natural yeast and aged on its lees in a combination of concrete egg and neutral French oak for 7 months, lending additional texture and balance to the wine Chris believes that Washington State can produce world-class Sauvignon Blanc, and after tasting this, we are believers. Extremely mineral with ripe stone fruit, mirabelle plum. Tropical from Boushey and very fresh and spicy note of wild herbs. Some texture and savoriness you wouldn’t expect from Sauvignon makes this a perfect companion for the table.
