Beaujolais
Based in Fleurie, Anne-Sophie Dubois is part of a newer generation of vignerons in the region. Her training in Burgundy has had a huge influence on the way she works with the variety Gamay Noir, helping distinguish her from other producers in Beaujolais. What makes her so exceptional is that her wines are of the soul. Pure, delicate, yet intricately complex.
Her vines are between 40 and 60-plus years old, planted in granite-rich soils, which further limits yields, driving up the flavor concentration in her grapes. She harvests by hand and uses no pumps, and the wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts only. She ages the wines in tanks and older barrels only, then bottles them unfined and unfiltered.
Les Labourons is a lieu-dit in Fleurie where all of Anne-Sophie's vines are located. The new wine is a selection of the best bunches from the old-vine parcel—in essence, her finest grapes. The fruit is 100% destemmed and aged for about 13 months in 228-liter neutral oak barrels. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
This wine brilliantly captures the elements of its terroir, with flavors of cherry and other bright red fruit. The granite-influenced minerality is also marked by gritty tannins and a dusty finish, unmistakably of the region and its soil.
You can try a bottle now, and keep a few resting in the cellar for the years to come.
