Anne Sophie Dubois Fleurie "Les Cocottes" '22
Anne-Sophie Dubois is a young, dedicated winemaker, originally from the Champagne region. After training in Burgundy, Anne went where she could find affordable vineyards with the potential to make great wine. Settling on the vineyards of Fleurie, she now produces three different reds. Her two main bottlings, “L’Alchimiste” and “Les Labourons,” are produced in the traditional Burgundy style. This wine, “Les Cocottes,” is a departure, a wine meant for early consumption, delivering freshness, bright aromas, and lots of energy. It is produced entirely from whole cluster fruit and fermented via carbonic maceration, as is traditional in Beaujolais.
The 2022 vintage just arrived and it is absolutely delicious. Black cherry, mineral, and white pepper open on the nose, and the fruit intensifies on the midpalate, with a mixture of red fruit along with some black and blue fruit notes. Juicy, with soft tannins and spice, the wine has enough weight to pair well with several types of food. Think grilled salmon, ratatouille, or this Beaujolais-lover’s favorite pairing: roast chicken with a crispy baguette and good, salted butter on the side. Chill the wine in the fridge for fifteen or twenty minutes before serving to achieve optimal joy.
