Penedès
Albet i Noya traces its history back through five generations of farmers, to 1903, when Joan Albet i Rovirosa arrived in Penedès, during the phylloxera crisis, to work the vineyards at the estate of Can Vendrell de la Codina, in Sant Pau d’Ordal. Since then, the Albet family, tenant farmers of Can Vendrell, have managed the vines they use for their wines, and they have been leaders in organic farming in the area since the late 1970s. They have about 80 hectares of organic vineyards in the Ordal Mountains area of the Penedès, and their small plots are composed of calcareous and clay-limestone soils, in a Mediterranean landscape of forests and scrubland. They are also focused on maintaining the dry stone walls that surround their organic vineyards, and that are part of the area’s historical and cultural heritage (declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by Unesco in 2018). The grapes are manually harvested and undergo cold maceration before pressing. Vinification is carried out in stainsless steel, and the fermentation is slow, at low temperatures, to help maintain freshness. A fragrant wine, with notes of green fig and tarragon, ripe pear, citrus, and apple blossoms. Mineral driven, with bright acidity and a clean, mouth-watering finish. Pair it with spring salads and asparagus dishes featuring refreshing vinaigrettes. Also perfect for pairing with an array of seafood and rice dishes.
